The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield is set to present the musical "Godspell" from January 31 to February 6. The performances will take place in the Helen Connor Laird Theatre, located at 2000 W 5th St., Marshfield. Showtimes are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, January 31 and February 1, as well as Thursday, February 6. A matinee performance is also planned for Sunday, February 2 at 2 p.m.
The production features the work of award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Under the direction of Donna Thompson, this updated version offers a fresh take on the original musical with contemporary references and new arrangements.
"Godspell" tells the story of a small group assisting Jesus Christ in recounting various parables through games, storytelling techniques, and comic timing. The narrative includes an eclectic mix of songs ranging from pop to vaudeville styles. The story culminates in scenes depicting the Last Supper and Crucifixion while conveying messages of kindness, tolerance, and love.
