The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has recognized several students for their achievements and excellence in various fields. The student-run radio station, WWSP-90fm, received ten individual awards from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA) in February 2025. The WBA annually hosts a seminar for high school and college broadcast organizations to network with industry professionals, attend career development seminars, and receive recognition for achievements in student broadcasting.
WWSP-90fm was honored in categories such as Best Feature Story, Best Public Affairs/Talk Show, Best Sports Play-by-Play, Boyd Huppert Excellence in Radio Writing Award, Best Radio Promo, Best Social Media, TV and Radio, and Best Website, TV and Radio. Station Manager Derek Tritz led the team by securing six awards across three categories. Other recognized contributors included Sports Director Liam Statz, Technical Director Owen Bessey, Public Relations and Outreach Director Montanna Heinz, and volunteer Brian Larson.
In addition to the radio station's success, "The Continental Divide" by Bob Johnson was published by UW-Stevens Point’s Cornerstone Press in February 2025 and received a positive review in the New York Times Book Review. This marks the first time a title from the student-staffed literary press has been reviewed by the NYTBR.
The UWSP Opera Workshop achieved national recognition as a finalist for the 2024 American Prize in Opera Performance—college/university division. They tied for third place nationally in this category. The group was also national finalists for The 2024 American Prize Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music in the smaller college/university ensemble & conductor division.
Alex Suscha, a sophomore majoring in business administration and management, won first place with his business Sourcer AI at the 2024 Accelerate Sheboygan County Pitch Competition.
Emma Politoski, a Master of Business Administration graduate student, received the Undergraduate Student of the Year award. This accolade is given to an outstanding undergraduate student at a Region V member institution who has demonstrated dedicated work ethic in student union/student activities. The recipient must have made significant contributions to their home campus while serving as a role model for peers and students and exemplifying core values of the Association through their work and studies.
