The Wisconsin Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program is set to offer a Hunter Safety Certification course in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The course will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Classes are scheduled for Mondays from 5:30-8 p.m. over five weeks, beginning March 28. Sessions will take place in the Trainer Natural Resources building located at 800 Reserve St., Stevens Point.
The hunter education course aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become responsible and safe hunters while promoting ethical environmental practices. Although BOW's teaching approach is tailored for women beginners, individuals of any age are welcome to enroll.
Participation is capped at 16 individuals, with a registration fee of $10. In Wisconsin, anyone born on or after January 1, 1973, must complete a hunter education course to obtain a hunting license. Graduates receive certification recognized across all states, Canadian provinces, and Mexico.
BOW operates as a non-profit outreach education initiative at UW-Stevens Point and receives support from the Wisconsin DNR. The program offers workshops that cover outdoor skills such as hunting and shooting, fishing and boating, along with activities like camping and canoeing. While primarily designed for women, these workshops are open to anyone aged 18 years or older.
